About

About our foodbank

We provide emergency food and support to address the underlying causes of crisis and reduce the need for future foodbank support.

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

Rugeley Foodbank was established in 2012.

Over the 10 years of our operation we have fed 14, 624 people (5284 adults, 8, 728 children)  with a total of 160,300kg food – all from local donations.

We are part of the Trussell Trust national foodbank network

Together for Change

The Trussell Trust, has recently put in place a strategic plan for the five year period 2020-2025 called “Together for Change”. In support of this plan the operation of Rugeley Foodbank has changed considerably over the last 12 months, building upon some of the changes already made during the pandemic and recognising that there were not enough support agencies in Rugeley and outlying areas to support local people in crisis.

Hunger in the UK isn’t about food. It’s about lack of income. The Trust’s statistics show that the main reasons why people need emergency food are:

  • Problems with the benefits system (delays, inadequacy and reductions)
  • Challenging life experiences or ill health
  • Lack of informal support

Poverty isn’t inevitable and we are looking to help build a future where no one needs a foodbank.

To this end we have engaged with a number of local agencies and support organisations to offer services through the foodbank.

Clients coming to the Centre now have the opportunity and time to talk to support agencies who now visit the Foodbank in person on selected dates for drop in surgeries  to offer personalised advice on financial problems, income and other issues. In addition to this we also have direct links through the Centre with CAB, DWP, Staffordshire Victims Gateway, Spring Housing, St Giles Bereavement Group, Changing Rooms Counselling, Mental health support, the Doctors’ Social Prescribers, the fitness and wellbeing group and of course ActiveAte.

As we continue to serve some of the most vulnerable people in our local community Rugeley Foodbank look forward to establishing a hunger free community here in Rugeley and surrounding areas.
